Farm Animals

This year, we decided to put together a farm set for The Girl. This is the second batch of wooden animals that The Daddy Monkey and I have made, and they are fun and easy to make. I’m very proud of these because the designs are entirely my own. I’m especially fond of the dog, even though somehow his scale got all messed up and he stands as tall as the cow!

To go with the animals, my mother and I split the cost of this beautiful handmade wooden barn, made by Finns and Flowers on Etsy. I couldn’t be happier with it. It is gorgeous. My father bought this cart from The Wooden Wagon to go with the horse, for pulling loads of hay and oats, of course!
I’ve really simplified our gift giving this year, and I’m so thrilled to be giving my Girl this set which was made by the loving hands of true craftspersons (and her parents!). Along with the usual holiday messages of goodwill to your fellow humans, gratitude, and peace, I feel it’s important to show my children that we can create things on our own, without going to the store. That items made by the hands of real humans do indeed have great value. And that it’s nice to have playthings made of natural materials that will last a very, very long time and not end up in a landfill. Perhaps that is the greatest gift of all.

A pro job! Gorgeous!
A real milestone for you all…lovely to get closer to being what you all really want to be, esp. at Christmas, which is supposed to be an expression of our us in our highest values.
I am amazed how much I feel the siren song of commercial sales this time of year, and how when faced with it all, how contrary it is to everything I actually want in my life or in the world. I am happy to see the ways in which you craft a meaningful alternative!

Wow! Another beautiful, hand-crafted gift. Your children are lucky to have both your wisdom and your talent to model themselves after.

What beautiful gifts. I love the pig with it’s curly tail! I’m sure your daughter will treasure them.

My daughter is doing her nursery in farm animals and the baby isn’t due until September 5th. I was wondering if you would make me a set of the wooden farm animals minus the dog and the cat, and if so how much you would charge. These would be so adorable in the nursery!
