This was my toy box when I was a little girl. My mother made it in a woodworking class when we lived in Kansas. I was not known as a neat child by any means, and I found the toy box to be a great place to hide, rather than a great place to put […]

Ahhh. Fall has finally arrived. Just when I thought I couldn’t take it any more, I woke up one day, and it was cool outside. I’m sure that Fall with have many false starts, that’s just how it works down here. But for now, I am relishing it. It’s so nice to have the house […]

The second week of school is over, and it was exhausting. After The Boy got lost three times at school, he was reassigned to a new teacher. I love her. She is amazing, and perfect for my Boy. So I spent the first few weeks of school running around like a crazy person, getting stuff […]

The Boy starts kindergarten on Monday. He has been home with me for the past five years. As much as I have joked about leaving skid marks in the parking lot on my way out, and the fact that we are both ready to have some time apart, I am actually getting a little sad […]

I’ve been really tired in the evenings lately, and that means less time spent sewing and more time sitting on the couch and knitting. I’m feeling a little burned out on socks right now, and who wants to knit with wool when it’s so hot outside? So I decided to start a fall sweater for […]

Here’s a little top I made for The Girl. I’m pretty proud of it because I drafted the pattern myself. It still needs a little tweaking, but it’s pretty close. I plan on making a ton of these for her at some point. The fabric is from my vintage sheet collection.

I made The Girl’s Easter dress from some of my leftover thrifted vintage sheet fabric. This was the second time I used McCall’s pattern 5083 and I’m not so sure I’ll be using it again. I really like the simple shape of the dress, but the bindings on the neckband and arm holes are impossibly […]

Here’s the Waldorf doll I made for The Girl for Christmas. I’m very proud of her because this is only the second Waldorf doll I’ve ever made, and she is from my very own pattern. The first Waldorf doll I made was for The Boy’s second birthday and it was a very challenging project for […]

Here are the new playsilks I made for the kids for Christmas. This is our second set. I dyed the first set of silks with that cheap drugstore dye, and they turned out okay. These I dyed with an old easter egg dye kit I had, and I love the colors! I also prewashed the […]

I did manage to get the doll finished in time for The Girl’s birthday. Barely. I was up until 11:30 p.m. the night before, but who’s counting? It was not the easiest project I have ever done, and I found myself muttering, “I’m never making another one of these.” But I said that when I […]
